I saw ETS for
the first time at the Guildford Festival in around 1997 (it might
have been 1998, but I have trouble remembering last week, so getting
it down to a couple years isn't bad). You were the highlight of the
weekend and I was fortunate to see you play at the Blues Tavern a
couple of times after that.
I
stumbled across Allan's site a few years ago & bought all the CD's
(the tapes had worn out long ago), which I still play pretty
regularly.
Even
after 9 or so years, you're still one of my favourite bands, and it
would be great to see you guys play live again, so please let me
know if you set any dates in the near future.

I spent many happy
evenings in the Lion Brewery listening to you and the guys play. I
bought the tapes of Sofa So Good and Absolute Pond Life but,
unfortunately the tape of Sofa So Good died about a year ago having
been played too much! I was worried that I would not be able to
replace it, so I was delighted to find that it was now available on
CD.
Cheers,

Hi I used to go and watch u guys years ago
with Marina and Martin. I have a vague memory of Brian (bear) doing some
sort of dance pretending to be a dog acting out to the lyrics ,sounds
mad I was probably pissed.Do you now what the song would possibly be and
is it on any of your cd's?
All the best from Duncan Carnell
Hi Duncan, Oh
yes.... We remember Bear! Yes...his sister Marina married Martin Tucker,
a close friend of our guitarist Sigg. We also played for her parents
wedding anniversary and camped out in their garden! The song you are
referring to was called Mailman. In the song we refer to a dog named
Spot. It was on our first album which is now available on CD and called
"Sofa So Good". We actually still play this song and we're told that
being pissed is still the best way to appreciate the subtle undertones
of the deep lyrics!!!! (Spot was very nearly called Smokey after our
fans Christine and Keenan's dog and you can hear us mentioning this at
the end of the recorded track)
Nice to hear from
you. JADD

Hi, I used to see the band at The Lion in
Ash about 13 (?)years ago- I absolutely love them! I didn't realise they
were still around! I wonder if you could locate a copy of the tapes they
were selling at those gigs? I had 2 tapes at the time and played them to
death - life moves on and all that! I cant even remember the names of
the tracks that were on them but I seem to remember the front cover of
one of them had a sofa in pink and green made out of the words - if you
know what I mean!
I shall keep trying the samples to see if
there is any of the old stuff I remember in the meantime - and by the
way I like what I'm hearing!
The reason for wanting tapes as opposed to
cd's is because I now have a new partner and we have a camper van with a
tape player in it. Obviously, we have a cd player in the house so I
could do copies of the new stuff I intend on getting ,but it would be
rather nostalgic to get a couple of originals.
Thanks for your time
Ann
(Oh, I am so sorry, I am mad I know, Ignore
all those stupid emails, if I had looked at the site properly before
getting excited I would have all the answers!)
Hi Ann, Thanks for your
message... the CD's are in the post. We still have one or two cassettes
of Absolute Pondlife but So Far So Good sold out a long time ago! Which
reminds me... Does anyone have a picture of the two versions of T-Shirt
we sold... Mike Le Gray did the designs... they were really Cool... JADD

Hello eat the sofa, i read on your history page that you were once playing
with Nick Walsh. Would this be the same guitarist known as Nicky Walsh,
quite a legendary player and had a duo going with someone called Harry back
in the late 80`s. They did gigs all around Guildford and the south of
England. The best venue to my memory was the Harvesters in Burpham; Nick
used to lash out blistering solos to Johnny be goode. They used to do a lot
of original numbers too. I heard he retired from performing about 15 years
ago and is nowhere to be found, any ideas where he is these days ?
thanks a lot in advance
brad
Nick Walsh
is currently serving an 8 year stretch in Pentonville for extreme
tightness!
The band recently sent him some KY Jelly to help him with his
therapy and we hope to receive a large cheque from him very soon. He
no longer plays the guitar but has become a master of the organ.
(His cell mate Big Pete is rather fond of the mouth organ!)
Harry has quit the music business and now runs a betting shop in
Wapping. I can give you his email address but I doubt he will answer
his messages. He has 13 children, three ex wives and a Chinese
girlfriend called Wannado.
Harry and Nick went there separate ways when Nick discovered that
Harry had spent all his food allowance on Chips and Curry sauce.
Nick was outraged that anyone could spend more than 1 pound fifty on such extravagances and
discarded Harry on the M25 at Junction 12.
Nick’s love for very skinny women led him to Ethiopia where he opened a Music
school for young girls. His good friend Gary Glitter came to stay
and the school was soon shut down. Nick returned to Godalming where
he bought several houses and opened a plectrum factory. Soon after
this it was reported that he survived a year on 12 pounds 72 pence and was duly arrested on the
Tightness charge as previously mentioned.
Nick had become so tight that it took him 3 days to go to the toilet
to pass water. Worried he might be giving something away for free he
would fill up empty lemonade bottles and sell them outside school
gates to children and young mothers!
Anyway Bradd…. You must be the last of a dying breed of Caught In
the Act fan club members. At the last count in 1985 there were 20
members of this club hailing from as far off as Shottermill. Angelo
was then the club president with Ian Scovell as treasurer, before
Nick sacked him for buying a pint of lager with the club proceeds…
Anyway… Should you require any further information, you can
contact Tightness Anonymous… Nick is sure to visit there for new
ideas apon his release in 2010. Harry can be contacted on 0031 20
404 2334 (Calls charged at 87p per min.)

after lots of moves she has lost it. She cant remember the titles of
anything but one of the songs goes 'I would like to give you sunshine but in
my heart there's only rain, I would like to take you seriously but you treat
me like a game' this is all she can remember hope you can help me!!!
thank you
Claudine
The album you require is Sofa So Good... What is your friends name....

Hi there Eat The Sofa types!
Way way back in 1996, Eat the Sofa had the track 'Love my life’ featured on
Volume 6 of the Farnborough Groove... Well fast forward 10 years, I'm compiling
a double CD from 10 volumes!
Is it ok to use the track? Lemme know!
Any chance of adding a link to the website?
Hope to hear from you soon,
Pete Cole
Cheers Pete, Good to hear from
you. Feel free to use the track!
I have added a link to your
site in our links page: You can go there or Click

touch for a gig in the summer hope you can make it , Cheers lads
Mick - City Club
Cheers Mick -
We're certainly up for a gig in the summer!
21st December 2005
Just a quickie to say Merry Christmas to all
fellow sofa folk.
Like everyone else i still play the tapes in
the car very loud and lapse into strong bouts of nostalgia, especially
at traffic lights in Guildford. Sorry for any delays.
Great night at the city club recently - some
bold electric versions of vintage acoustic sofa. It set me up for a good
session in Guildford ending with kebab, vomit, finishing kebab and
briefly staggering down sofa memory lane.
Turns out, no one else in the kebabby had
even heard of Eat the Sofa so my lecture was not well received to be
honest. Given this, the heartfelt rendition of 'You took it all away'
was a mistake in retrospect.
Bloody muggles!
P.S. I should also thank Nick Legg for the
dance and sing-song at the city club. We were great, although i strongly
suspect he was miming. That's ok Nick, I wasn't really dancing. I was
just pissed!

Wow!
Like Andy Lock, I typed Eat The Sofa into Google and found the site. I'm
stunned and thrilled to see that you guys have made it back together.
The time I spent managing you guys, printing the T-shirts, designing the
'Absolute Pondlife' cover, videoing, booking and attending the gigs was one
of the highlights of my life. (I still have all of those video tapes, by the
way, including the recording of 'pondlife'...).
I was always so sad that you split up, and now can't wait to see you again.
I live 'oop North' now, in Peter Kaye country, but please publish your up
and coming gig list so I can travel down there and have a beer with you all.
(By the way, Jamie, you've still got my silver Dunhill lighter!)
You now have my e-mail address, so if one (or all) of you would like to get
in touch, please do.
All the best,
Mike.
Great Days indeed Mike... We'll
publish the gigs soon! It'll be great to catch up again and i think Jamie
sold your Dunhill lighter at auction for 150,000 quid! It was a vintage
special edition made from rare titanium silver found in the hull of the Mary
Rose or something!!!!!! He's been living of the interest ever since! Perhaps
you can send us some old video footage if Jamie gives you a cut or buys you
a new one? How about 15%? The T-Shirts are still out there! I remember them
hanging all over your house! Will definitely catch up sometime in 2006. -
Allan
11th October 2005:
So glad you guys are back together,, what
are the new gigs up coming ??
Karen Barford
11th October 2005: I've just come across
the web site after typing 'eat the sofa' into google in what I thought was a
vain attempt to find a recording of one of my favourite songs ever, namely
'Lift Me Up' (or is it 'Set Me Free'
I can never remember, but you know the one I mean)!
I had no idea that the band was still going. I used to watch the band at the
White Hart in Farncombe and around Guildford and beyond.
So the question has now become twofold:
a. Can I still get hold of a copy of the album with above song on?
b. Where is the next gig?
To this day I can't convince my wife that Abo Call was played on a guitar,
I'd like to prove it to her!
Hope to see you soon.
Andy Lock
Cheers Andy... Go to our CD page
to obtain a copy of the Sofa Albums... Next gig will be announced shortly..

Hey guys,
this
is Matt Upsher here!
I
used to play with the guys in Levylsdene. The weirdest set of events led to
me getting in contact with you. I found an old solo tape Alan recorded and
was listening to it on the way to work here in Cornwall. it got me thinking
about the old days and I figured I would try to
get in contact with someone. Are the sofa still playing gigs? I am coming to
London to visit my bro on the 27th November and wondered whether there were
any gigs around that weekend? I
am still writing and performing songs in a duo
with a friend, we are called cowboy and the clown and have recorded a few
CD's of various songs. Is thee any way
I can get in contact with matt and the
guys from the band as it would be cool to share some memories. you can email
me at
matt.upsher@btinternet.com. drop
us a line, cheers,
Matt.

3rd July 2004:
Just thought i would
drop you a line to say thanks for a great night last Saturday. It was like
going back in time, nobody looked any different (except for Pete when is it
due?) and the music sounded just as good as it always did. It was great to
see so many of the old faces, but it only seemed like you was having a pint
with them the week before. Can't wait for the next one.
See You All Soon
